There’s nothing quite like camping with kids. It gives them a sense of freedom that’s rare these days, an adventure filled with mud, marshmallows, and memories.

Below, we’ve pulled together some of our favourite ideas and essential tips to help make your family camping trip special. From what to pack, to how to keep the kids happy and entertained.

Activities and Fun

Big Family Games

There’s nothing like a good old fashioned game of rounders to get everyone laughing. Bring along bats, balls, rackets, and even a kite or two. If you’re camping as part of a special event of wedding, hiring ‘giant’ games such as connect four can be a winner to keep the kids and grown ups entertained whilst getting ready or those busy moment.

Indoor Entertainment

British weather doesn’t always play nice. Pack a few board games, card games, and favourites like “Who Am I?” for those rainy tent-bound afternoons or long car journeys. Listening to the rain fall on tent while being cosy inside with lots of munchies can surprisingly make some of the best moments.

Bikes

If you’ve got the space, bring bikes. Campsites are perfect for kids to have a bit of independence (with safe supervision, of course), and if the whole family can cycle, even better, you might just turn it into a mini cycling holiday. Hiring bikes is always a great option too, many nature reserves, areas of outstanding beauty and nearby towns will have places to hire a bike.

Silent Disco

This one’s unusual but is a great options for all ages. Find a local silent disco hire company and have your own mini rave at your campsite, all while keeping the noise down and not disturbing the neighbours.

Foraging & Nature Walks

Turn a walk into an adventure, spotting wildflowers, identifying leaves, and maybe even collecting ingredients for your own wild tea (just check what’s safe!). It’s a great way to connect with nature and keep little minds curious.

Festivals and Events

Why not plan your camping trip around a local festival, they are so many options from the larger music festivals smaller local affairs, productions, annual fates, and even sports events.

Marshmallow Moments

It’s not camping without toasted marshmallows. Whether you’ve got a fire pit or a BBQ, this simple treat is always a hit — don’t forget the skewers!

Local Food Stops

Scout out local pubs, coffee vans, or farm shops near your site. A warm breakfast bap or cream tea can be a game-changer.

Picnics & Sharing Food

Let the kids help make a picnic lunch — it’s fun and gets them involved. Sharing food around the campfire brings everyone together.
